Hobbits world of arctic wonder
We are so glad that you have stopped by our little igloo to share a cup of coffee and talk about how God is working in our lives. Please... pull up a chair and make yourself at home. There may be a spare cheerio laying around . . . you’re welcome to it. Snow machines screaming by may cause us to pause here and there but . . . hey! Welcome to Nome.
It’s not very hard to get lost in the wonder of the beauty that is all around us here in every season. Five minuets from our house we can be in absolute wilderness and not see another person or vehicle for hundreds of miles in some directions.
A mere 20 minute drive from our house in any direction puts us outside the reach of any common public facilities and conveniences including electricity, cell phones, & gas stations. Just taking a “joy ride” requires planning and emergency preparations. That all adds to the adventure of living here.
To us the beauty is grand. But to many native folks and others, the beauty isn’t seen because of a choice in lifestyle. Instead of subsistence living it’s substance abuse living. As I understand it, Nome consume more alcohol per capita than all the rest of Alaska put together. Alcohol & Liquor have riddled this community with a continuum of pain for years.
The devastation is generational and would seem hopeless to ever see change. But HALLELUJAH, God’s grace is GREATER (superabounding, far surpassing) our sin. “But where sin increased and abounded, grace (Phil. 2:13) has surpassed it and increased the more and superabounded, ---Rom. 5:20b We can give testimony to the fact that God’s grace is greater than any sin a person finds themselves in. God is working! Changing lives. Healing hearts. Setting people free to hear the Wisdom and Counsel from God’s Word. May God give us strength to live out His Word in our lives so that others may see Jesus. Pray for us that we will do so as we “Run the earth & watch the sky.”
Welcome to nome through the eyes of we hobbits
